This is such a great honor - its the most fashionably correct thing to wear to the shows and all rodders wear car shirts. Most rodders wear them everywhere else as well, jeans with a car t-shirt is the standard uniform around here (except in the winter - change the car shirt for a Canucks jersy, lol) Most show producers create a new shirt each year but apparently the Royal City is going to keep our car on theirs permanently as well as on the entry cards and fridgies with just a change of date each year.
This is something totally new and who knows their reasons for choosing ours even though it's a beautiful car with a fabulous stance, straight as an arrow and wins lots of trophies and other prizes. yeah; i'm proud of our car. We've had the most coveted peoples choice, the mayors choice, other participants choice, best paint etc which of course are all awesome to receive. This car has surprised me so many times and yet sometimes i just don't get it. I mean i love it but when you consider last year New West had over 400 street rods entered and believe me some of those cars are amazing, and incredible works of art, not to mention many of them are valued at a much higher price than ours. Lots of cars are brought in from the states and all over the province on the backs of flat bed trucks....the owners dont even drive them! Unbelievable as ours is well used and is a driver...i cant imagine Bob not driving it - thats the fun of being a car owner. He HAS to drive it, it turns him into a 17 yr old again! Whats the fun of owning a street rod but not driving it? I really think its stupid not to.
Sure,we catch the odd rock like the one that hit the roof on our way to the Penticton show earlier this year. It felt like an enormous boulder; dented and tore the paint and so fast and sudden it scared the wits out of me; i thought i had been hit on the head. But better i think than a broken windshield when you're on your way to an out of town show and might not be able to get it replaced very fast. During the course of the shows sometimes the valve caps disappear or a scratch will appear somewhere; people like to touch it and they let their kids touch as well, theres dogs on chain leashes, baby strollers, kids on wobbly bikes (or is it the kids who are wobbly)and even the odd babe who will hop right up to pose seductively on the hood..... and of course fingerprints but it gets cleaned or repaired immediately. We keep it shiny and in perfect condition and ready to go at all times but thats something that all rodders love to do.
Anyway, i guess this idea of New Westminster keeping the same logo from year to year saves them the chore of choosing a new one each year.....and amazingly they've chosen our car! Its funny because seeing and buying the new shirt is something i've always looked forward to at the shows; every artist has a different style and story to tell with it. One year for the Sleepy Hollow run the city of Sechelt held a contest in their schools. The winner designed a really rad shirt with the local legend of a headless horseman on it and it remains my all time favorite shirt. The shirts are usually available in white, black and sometimes that mottled grey colour that looks terrible on us. The legend of Sleepy Hollow was available only in black and this one with our car will be available only in white.
The too bad thing is that the colour of our Fordy dosnt photograph real well. Many have tried and most have failed despite their wonderful digital cameras and know how, even most pros can't capture the colour. I actually feel bad for all the visitors who have taken pics of it; they go home and check 'em out and it looks like a red car. The colour suits its name "candy brandy wine" which some people mistake for "candy apple red" which is actually no where near the same colour.
So, the t-shirts, fridgies and entry cards that will grace the Royal city car show will look like the front of a red car, which is ok i suppose because it looks nice and shiny bright and good in the logo and then when people see it in real life they're totally dazzled. Everybody likes the flames as well, which was a hard thing for me to agree to doing....i was really scared that the car was going to be ruined. They're not ghost flames but a subtle flame that fades in and out when you look from different angles, otherwise i thought too plain. Guess its everything combined with the background paint which has sparkle and glitter, even a few blue ones. I was skeptical of that also but glad we gave way to Dr.Bob to go for what he knew would be just the right thing for it. So thank you Dr. Bob, i'd also like to thank the academy, my mother, God and all the fans, lol.
