In my neighborhood
After yesterdays downer of a post i thought i'd get with an update of the life and times around my neck of the woods.
A Hat Trick For Roberto! and the legend grows!
Thurs night at the garage the score was Canucks 2 Columbus 0 and
numero uno made a team record with his 3rd shut out in a row. He's calm, he's cool, he's unbeatable with 193:56 minutes of play time. He broke the record set in 1975 by Ken Locketts 184 mins. The Canucks have been doing well and alot of the reason has been our fab goalie Luongo, my hero. I always said the 7 million would be worth it and it has. Roberto has never had a bad period, he's our best player and he's fun to watch. Next 8 games are 7 on the road and one at home.
The new Chair lift
Lots of stuff going on for the 2010 Olympics and one of the most beautiful and exciting is under construction at Whistler and Blackcomb Mts. The Olympic mascots were unveiled and we were disappointed, but then we're adults and they're for kids who might like 'em. To us they dont say anything about Vancouver or B.C. at all but what do we know? I remember how embarrassed we used to feel every time there was a Canadian in a beauty pagent or whatever, and they always costumed up as an RCMP or an igloo or a beaver or something equaly as corny which used to piss us off big time too. We are much more than these weird Japanese cartoon mutants.
Spice Girls Tour
They start their reunion world tour here in Vancouver tomorrow night. Should be a great show. Mel B. should have won Dancing with the Stars. But then Helio should have won also. Julieanne is such a good dancer and choreographer and she looks exactly like one of my gkids. Darn that was a hard one to choose!

Pickton Trial
Deliberations began today in New Westminster after a trial 10 mths with 5 women and 7men serving on the jury.
Everyone around here knows all about this but for anyone not familiar Robert Pickton (Willie)is a 58 yr old man who owned and operated a pig butchering business in a neighboring city. He's charged with the murder of 26 Vancouver women and this trial is on the first 6 charges and the next trial starting in Jan 08 will be the remaining 20 counts of first degree murder. The details that are coming out are absolutely chilling. This guy is totally evil.
Survivor
James James James! sooooo stupid. After coming so close to going home last week i could tell by the look on your face that you'd be smart at the next tribal counsel but noooo you still didnt think you needed to pull out an immunity idol. I dont think James even realized how very close he was to the $million$. He would have won an immunity challenge or 2 as well as holding an idol until the end. stupid stupid stupid stupid
Pavel Petunia Blue
Pavels 12 yrs old now and doing ok but seems so old. He acts old and looks old. Hes forgotten how to play or simply dosn't want to play anymore. He sleeps about 23 hours a day and needs laxatives now. He'll still do his trick of jumping through a hoop and he'll go to great lengths of cuteness to have his special treat of algae tablets meant for fish - he absolutely loves them. I have to limit them no matter how cute he acts.
Maybe this fast aging is normal for an indoor cat because of course he dosnt get to run or climb trees or go hunting. But i remember he seemed old even when he was a yr or two. Our previous cat Fonzie lived to ripe old 19 and he looked and acted like a kitten all that time. I think Ferdinand was about 16 and they were both allowed outside. Otherwise several of our cats were killed on the street and one simply vanished. I guess its 6 of one and a half doz. of another which way is best for cats.
We still have Leroy and Leanne the crows around despite removing their tree. I've also seen more cranes than usual and newcomers to our neighborhood are a posse of sea gulls. One day i noticed Pavel looking out the window and doing that weird thing that cats do when they see birds. I looked out and there were 3 big gulls walking down the middle of the street; it just cracked me up it looked so funny.

DO NOT READ IF YOU CAN'T TAKE MY WHINING AND FEELING SORRY FOR MYSELF
Well, i'm right back to where i was 8 mths ago with my back issues. I waited 6 mths to find out that
So, the first four were injected into my spine and i was warned that i'd get a terrible headache later that night. I waited and waited but the headache didnt develop, and neither did any pain relief....i was pissed.
Next apt. is of course several weeks away and i patiently waited. This time he injected the epidurals into different locations and he gives me the same headache warning.
So i anxiously waited, actually hoping for the headache,cuz i thought it would be indication that the shots had worked but it didnt happen. Nothing happened. No pain relief, no nothing, in fact the pain got worse and i was more pissed off than ever.
Next apt. again weeks away finally arrived. When he asked me if i had any pain relief i told him no, and jokingly said even the headache he had warned me about didnt happen.I could tell that pissed him off big time and he angrily said that he didnt say that.
So i challenged him on it and also the fact that he had given me a wrong phone number to call to get a faster apt. It looked like that pissed him off worse and i knew that he wasn't used to being called on or questioned like that. He went just like that from being Dr. McDreamy to an angry DrBigMacAss.
WTF!
My G.P. had recently been to a convention in Ireland on the uses of botox and she told me it was the new wonder drug for back pain relief and all sorts of medical issues, even stroke victims and MS and much more than just cosmetic applications.She was really excited about it ....it would actually "freeze" my back, much like the freezing you get at the dentists. Only this freezing would last a lot longer, like months, then i'd simply just get it done again. I was so looking forward to having a dead back and not feeling anything in it!
So she made the first consultation apt.for me at the pain clinic specifying Botox injections and they didnt say different.
Later i was thinking maybe they're required to take a long route to get to the real thing and use something else first, something simple and lame like epidural injections. If it works, fine, cuz its easier and cheaper. If it dosn't then you get the good stuff? Like it was just a procedure you had to go through or something...gawd i'm soooo gullible.
So i had been expecting and hoping he'd say ok, we'll procede on to step number 2, which i was really sure there had to be a step number 2.
But it didnt happen. Turns out they dont even have Botox there and furthermore don't believe in using it. WTF! Dr.McDreamy turned Dr.Bigmacasshole then curtly and bluntly says "theres nothing else i can do for you"
Needless to say i was more pissed than ever as i walked out of there in a haze of disappointment.
8 months of hopeful anticipation down the drain.
I've done everything imaginable to help myself inc.several series of accupuncture treatments and a couple of different chiropractors, deep tissue massage therapists, quack items and places that use electrical impulses guaranteed to fix what ails you, excercize, naturalpaths with all their expensive vitamins etc. and many consultations with many many Drs.
So many different Drs. with so many different remedies that i've lost track. Somewhere along the way i had surgery on my big toe...it looked and felt perfectly good to me but that Dr. thought the back pain was caused by my toe! I believed him! He explained it sooooo well!
It was the worst, hardest surgery i ever had in my life and it didnt do anything. i spent 6 weeks in a flipping toe cast that went right up to my knee!
My legs and feet have been studied as much or more than my back. And each and every time they all require new x-rays and i do it even though i think x-rays are one of the scariest things on earth and something i'd rather avoid if possible. All this takes alot of time with long waits in between. They all agree theres no surgery available for my back issues.
So i've worn special back braces, uncomfortable tight belts, shoe inserts, Opus chair pads, ice packs, heat packs, smelly analgesics and i think theres all kinds of stuff that i've forgotten about. Even my last 2 cars have had features for back comfort (adjustable lumbar supports and leg adjusters and my current car has a heated seat) I've had a low grade tension headache since the beginning of Sept but i dont care
cuz in the meanwhile

and the only thing left now is drugs. Not that i havent been there before. Good grief, i've taken tons of drugs, all legal of course. This one is something new to me but a pill thats been around a long time. I was surprised to read that its usually used as an anticonvulsant for epilepsy and/or nerve pain caused by a herpes infection. I thought the pharmacy gave me the wrong prescription!
ohhhh man this stuff makes me so tired. Always something to research and find out and worry about. Meanwhile one of the possible side effects is guess what?

How to kill an old friend
Mr. Spruce, a long time friend met his demise today. It was enough to make me cry. We brought Mr and Mrs Spruce home in the back seat of the car about 34 years ago, Being as how the Mr. got all the sunlight and attention he grew big and strong and dense. Mrs Spruce, the widow, grew spindly in his shadow.
Leroy watches
Leroy, Leanne, Lebaby and their crow offspring have been a fixture in our yard for literally decades. Leroy is in the Locust tree in this pic but Blogger cut the pic short so we can't see him. He was here bright and early as always and he knew something was up. I felt real badly for him and his family.
We always assumed their nest was in Mr. Spruce but we couldn't see it. It seems we were wrong; they nest somewhere else and had been using Mr. Spruce all this time as their daycare babysitter and restaurant.
All these years listening to those babies squawking and waking us early by scratching on the roof and it turns out they wern't even ours!
Every spring a new baby and sometimes twins bawling and squawking all day. Because i thought they were ours i kept them well fed. Their favourite treat was cheese.
Now, as long as they dont set up shop in Mrs Spruce maybe we'll be able to welcome back the little songbirds and humming birds again. Leroy and his family used us for all they were worth, scaring away anything smaller than themselves. No more you little buggers, go home!
No, it wasn't because of the crows that we had to remove this tree. It was so thick and dense that last winters high winds pushed it to a lean with half the root ball lifted out of the ground. The tree specialist labled it a danger and with no other remedy it had to go. The lean isn't evident in any of these pics; wrong angle.

Last Friday the Canadian dollar closed higher than the U.S. dollar for the first time in 31 years.
If or as this continues many changes will occur. One small way this affects me is by the pricing of books and magazines, which so far haven't changed even though this hasn't happened overnight. As our loonie became stronger we've still been subject to paying much higher prices. Hopefully prices of goods will soon get caught up to reflect our loonies equality.
Heres an example: i paid $29.99 for my newly purchased copy of Artist Trading Card by Bernie Berlin. The U.S. price is $22.99
2007/2008 Stampingtons Inspirations was $9.95 Cndn while the U.S.price is $6.95
I paid $10.99 for the Sept-Oct. 2007 copy of Cloth Paper, Scissors but the American price is only $7.99
I wonder what part of "ON PAR" these publishers don't understand.

A visit from a bandit
This little fellow came to visit today; is he cute or what? He was so careful not to fall in the water....yes, theres water under the green plant cover. Its meant to keep the water dark which helps prevent algae from growing. I keep this cover growing on the surface all the time now since i didnt have any luck keeping koi, due to racoons and blue herons getting them. I've had many visits from coons before, usually a mom with 2 or 3 babies in the spring, but this guy was alone. He seemed bigger than he looks in the pics.
Theres usually a waterfall just behind where he is here, cascading over a flat rock but its been turned off for the season. Top left, see the butchered plant? I don't do much gardening anymore and have to hire people do do some upkeep. Some turkey who said he knew what and how to prune destroyed my prized weeping cedrus deodora thinking it was an ordinary juniper. It was so beautiful, hanging gracefully over the side of the water. I was real choked when i saw what he had done.
The racoon played around on the edges of the pond, ate some plants then climbed a tree for a long afternoon nap.

Survivor China
The long awaited Survivor season finally!started last night and i wasn't disappointed. I've always loved China and its people,the history and culture,the scenery and everything else about it. I also love Survivor. It was a perfect match.
The game got off to a great start and i think this could be one of the best games yet. I've already picked my favs and the players i don't like. I'm all for the red tribe and especially Leslie for not being afraid to stick up for herself right at the beginning when you're so vulnerable. Its a critical time when a different choice or controversial statement could very easily get you booted. I think she was right to leave the ceremony when it felt religious to her even though Jeff had said it wasn't. I thought it was definitely, theres just no two ways about it.
I admired her for getting up and leaving even though i wouldn't have. I would have chalked it up to not being that big of a deal.
However i do know the scenerio of once having gone along with a popular vote in a club that i was a member of even though i wasn't in favor of it. At the time i didn't have courage to go against the vote and i've kicked myself in the ass ever since for holding up my "all in favor" hand just because everyone else did. Leslie won't have to kick herself over this for going with her gut.
Now, that rude blond bitch from NY, the one with the attitude? She wasn't enjoying the ceremony either but went along with it, well, just cuz. Out of boredom i guess. Anyhow, i hope shes goes home early. Real early.
I like James for his quiet strength and hes a hard worker, seems respectable, decent and not too hard to look at either.
Now, having gotten into the sexuality thing i'm going to get all contradictive. I'm not a Pisces for nothing you know. I swim this way and then i swim that way.
Well, i don't like Ashley mainly because of flaunting her big huge purchased tits. Ditto the big breasted black lady, although hers are probably real.
But why do these women feel the need to display them so? Do they think its their best feature? Are they hoping its their chance to be discovered? I don't get it.
Call me old fashioned if you will but at least call me! And i hope James continues to show us his six pack. And i'm sure he will. Six packs are meant to be shown. Boobs arn't. Now if he were wearing a speedo that was 3 sizes too small , well, that would be in bad taste and equal to how wrong the big breasted womens attire is. OK?
Now, relax, i have nothing against big hooters. Mine are quite big too. I just don't think its appropriate to be showing them off that much in a game, c'mon, wearing the lowest cut thats possible tops then jumping and bouncing around......
Don't say you didnt notice.
It looked crude and stupid and i can't help but think they were chosen especially for their "well endowed and bouncy" tendencies over probably other more qualified less bouncy contestants just to bring the big tit drama into the show as they always seem to do. The little breasted women didnt wear low cut tops and jump and bounce around now did they?
Anyway what i'm trying to say is i think theres women who'll use their assets to entertain the guys, and some guys are simple and they'll opt to keep them around just for viewing and then be pissed when they dont come through in a race or making fire, eating snake guts or whatever.
Hell, those two couldn't run without giving themselves black eyes.
Some things are so contrived. Theres lots of women who have big ones but are conservative but they're not usually chosen to be on the show. Don't you think they probably dumped 1000's of more qualified candidates in favor of the token few big bouncy tits? Yep, better $ ratings. You see this on all the reality shows.
If these two stick around be prepared to see lots of blurry film breast shots. Cuz *oh my* thats sooo embarrassing when they accidently escape! ( * )( * ) yawn....
Well, it is a game and it makes fun bouncy viewing for at least 50% of the viewers so lets just watch this bouncy aspect and see if or how they bounce out. Its sad that i'm subjected to such lame crap on an otherwise great show. I'll overlook it ....again!....and watch it anyhow. But i'm betting the winner will be smart, not bouncy and have a pair that you won't even notice.
ok, now about Pei-Gee (not sure if thats her name)you know the one who stepped up to organize a little. Well, somebody had to. It was funny that sickly wrestler big tits girl resented that when after all she sure didnt lift a finger to help or voice an idea or opinion.
I like Pei-Gee and hope she sticks around for awhile.
The chicken guy wasn't at all likeable and i was glad to see him go first.
I'm usually pretty accurate with my choices but of course i might be wrong,choosing so early. Can't wait till next week.

A Darwin Lee original "Back Forty"
Bob took this pic last night to show someone at the S. & S. today. Its an acrylic painting Darwin did of our car and is aprox 20" x 42" long. The long thin photo pic he has hung under it is about 3" x 42" and was taken at the BCHRA's annual bar-b-que last year.

Dressed for success?
CANUCKS UNVEIL NEW HOME AND AWAY SWEATERS
Yesterday the Vancouver Canucks unveiled their new threads for the 2007-08 season
at a mid-day media conference. Aprox eight thousand Canucks fans deserted the beaches to go to GM Place on a beautiful sunny day to see five of their favourite players, Markus Naslund, Trevor Linden, Mattias Ohlund, Willie Mitchell and Kevin Bieksa skate onto the ice in their full home blue and road white uniforms for the first time. Who else has such devoted fans in the middle of summer but in Vancouver eh!
It was such a relief to see a strong bold really meaningful uniform thats relective of the Canucks heritage and the province of B.C. Remember, it could have been Halloween orange again! Blue is good! Blue is nice! I like it! The addition of the curved Vancouver is really nice. It was also good to hear the're a better design with more ventilation and are made of a fabric that'll keep them much cooler this season.
The combination of the original blue, green and white colouring, along with the Orca Whale celebrates the past and present in Canucks history.
Our new home uniform is primarily blue with classic horizontal green and white stripes, reflective of the Canucks first NHL season of 1970 and symbolic of BC’s natural landscape.

Yesterday the Vancouver Canucks unveiled their new threads for the 2007-08 season
at a mid-day media conference. Aprox eight thousand Canucks fans deserted the beaches to go to GM Place on a beautiful sunny day to see five of their favourite players, Markus Naslund, Trevor Linden, Mattias Ohlund, Willie Mitchell and Kevin Bieksa skate onto the ice in their full home blue and road white uniforms for the first time. Who else has such devoted fans in the middle of summer but in Vancouver eh!
It was such a relief to see a strong bold really meaningful uniform thats relective of the Canucks heritage and the province of B.C. Remember, it could have been Halloween orange again! Blue is good! Blue is nice! I like it! The addition of the curved Vancouver is really nice. It was also good to hear the're a better design with more ventilation and are made of a fabric that'll keep them much cooler this season.
The combination of the original blue, green and white colouring, along with the Orca Whale celebrates the past and present in Canucks history.
Our new home uniform is primarily blue with classic horizontal green and white stripes, reflective of the Canucks first NHL season of 1970 and symbolic of BC’s natural landscape.
